CPC takes the privacy of its customers and prospective customers very seriously. The purpose of this statement is to set out the principles governing our collection and use of personal information we may obtain about you. By choosing to deal with CPC generally, you are indicating that you have read this Privacy Policy and understand that your personal information may be used in accordance with it. How we collect information about you
We may ask for information from you when you place an order with us, apply to open an account with us, enquire about our products and services, register for promotions, request catalogues or specialogues or register with us whether by phone, post or through our website. We may collect information from our website, from responses given over the telephone, from written information sent to us and from other communications. We may also collect information from carefully selected third parties, including other companies in the Premier Farnell Group. Your information includes any information which we hold now or in the future and which comes from or relates to:
- Your dealings with us or any Group company;
- Third parties such as credit reference agencies and parties associated with you;
- Products and services you buy from us or any Group company.
The kind of information we collect may include, by way of example, a record of your name, postal address, email address, telephone number, fax number, preferences and other relevant information you or others provide to us. From time to time we may ask you to complete surveys or provide feedback. Participation is completely voluntary and you are under no obligation to reply to any survey or feedback request you may receive from us. If you choose to do so, the information you complete will be given the same high standard of care as our other customer information and will be treated in accordance with this Policy and any statements of use in the survey or feedback form itself.
How we use your information
The information we hold will be stored on a Group database and may be used by us or any other company in the Premier Farnell Group:
- To decide whether to enter into any contract or arrangement with you;
- For order fulfilment, administration, customer services, profiling your purchasing preferences and to help us to review, develop and improve our business and the goods and services we offer to you;
- Where you provide the necessary consent to our doing so, to market the products and services of the Company and of other companies in the Premier Farnell Group or those of third parties whose products and services we believe may be of interest to you;
- For the development of our business, including its transfer to new owners;
- Crime prevention or detection.
Where we are lawfully able to do so, we may contact you by post, fax, telephone, email, SMS, MMS or otherwise for any of the above purposes.
To whom may we disclose your information?
We may need or wish to share your information with others for a variety of reasons.
In connection with our business
For the purposes outlined above we may disclose your information to our service providers and agents who help us to carry on our business (which may include other companies within the Premier Farnell Group, as well as reputable third party providers). We require them to treat your personal information as confidential and to comply with applicable UK data protection legislation in handling your personal information.Sometimes, in connection with the purposes outlined above, we may need to transfer your personal information to service providers and agents in countries (such as the USA) which do not provide the same level of data protection as the UK. If we do make such a transfer we will put a contract in place to ensure your information is given the same level of protection as it would have had if it had remained in the UK.
For credit reference purposes
We may also reveal information regarding how you conduct your account to credit reference agencies. That information and the fact that we have made a search against you may be used by other credit grantors in future.
To third parties for their marketing purposes
We would also like, with your consent, to share your information with organisations in whose products or services we believe you may be interested and who may contact you by any of the methods outlined in 'How we use your information'. If you don't want us to do so, please let us know by any of the methods in 'Your choices' below.
In connection with the sale or acquisition of a business
As we continue to develop our business, we may buy or sell subsidiary companies or business units. In such transactions it is usual for the buyer to wish to acquire details of the customers of the business or company concerned and our normal practice would be to pass on that information to a buyer or potential buyer in such circumstances. In the case of a potential buyer we would require obligations of confidentiality. Any information supplied to a buyer or potential buyer remains subject to any statements made in this Policy (for example, regarding the uses to which that information may be put) unless and until you agree otherwise.
For crime prevention, security or regulatory purposes
You should also be aware that we may pass on information to a law enforcement agency requesting it in connection with the commission of an offence, once we are reasonably satisfied as to the circumstances surrounding the request, or to comply with applicable laws and any lawful government or regulatory requests. If you are buying a television or television receiving equipment from us we are obliged to pass details of the address to which the TV or equipment is delivered to the TV Licensing Authority.

If we don't hear from you we will assume that we can use your information as set out in this Policy.You may also express your preference as to how you wish us to contact you and in connection with which specific products, services and publications at www.cpc.co.uk or by speaking to one of our representatives.
Notification of changes
We may occasionally modify this Policy and, if we do so, we will publish the changes on our website at www.cpc.co.uk. We will not, however, significantly change how we use the information you have already given us without your prior agreement.
Your rights to access personal information
You have the right of access to your personal records held on our files by written request to CPC, Component House, Faraday Drive, Fulwood, Preston, PR2 9PP on payment of a fee.
Who are we
CPC is a trading division of Premier Farnell UK Limited, part of the Premier Farnell Ltd group of companies. When we refer to 'Group' or 'we', 'our' or 'us' in this notice, we mean Premier Farnell Ltd and each of its subsidiary companies.
