Security & Safety Guide | Floodlights
Floodlights are designed to provide powerful exterior illumination by flooding an area with light, which makes them extremely effective for keeping your home or workplace safe and secure. They are highly efficient and useful in darker areas, where there is not much natural light available.
What floodlights are the best?
In terms of energy efficiency, LED floodlights are up to 90% more efficient than their halogen counterparts. PIR floodlights have motion sensing technology, adding an additional layer of security to your home or workplace. Portable work lights are ideal for on-site work. Motion sensing floodlights are great to monitor activity around your home, deterring threats and beaming light on otherwise dark and potentially unsafe areas. So, there are various types of floodlights that suit different situations.
Wattage and Lumens
When searching for a floodlight you will come across terms like ‘wattage’ and ‘lumens’. These mean different things but can be easily confused. Wattage measures the amount of power used by a lamp or appliance when in use, whereas lumens is a measure of the amount of light emitted by a lamp, or put simply, the brightness. The higher the wattage, the more light is emitted. As lighting becomes more energy efficient, the same level of brightness (or lumens) is being achieved at a lower wattage.
The wattage of the floodlight indicates how powerful the lighting performance will be. A 10W or 30W floodlight is ideal for smaller areas, like your driveway or garden. To illuminate bigger areas, like roads or car parks, you will need to invest in something more powerful, such as a 200W floodlight.
